He's 3!

We had a pretty low-key birthday for our little boy with a few presents from mom and dad and some from his grandparents.  Kiddo was able to open his grandparent's presents while we were video chatting so they could watch the big moment...which killed all conversation, as Brandon and Kiddo were too busy playing to talk.  (But don't Kiddo's grandparents look great?)

Brandon stepped up to the plate and both made and decorated Kiddo's birthday cake.  Thereafter when someone asked Kiddo about his birthday, the first thing he told them about was his car cake.

Obviously it was a big hit.

Do You Take Requests?

Yesterday Kiddo requested we listen to the "angry men" song, which, of course, is referring to this:

It made me so proud.

However, he has been known to request this song, as well:

I should have known it wasn't a good song choice for teaching him the days of the week.

Family Pictures 2011

Up until last week, we have never had professional family pictures taken.  I blame our transient life-style.  (I'm still kicking myself for not taking advantage of our neighbor Terese when we lived in Cambridge.)  It has resulted in some lack-luster pictures of our family.

Anyway, one of our neighbors here in Arlington is getting her photography business going and offered to take some picture of us.  I took it as a sign from the picture gods that we were meant to have family pictures after all.  So voilĂ !  Behold our family pictures, taken in Old Town Alexandria near the waterfront.  And take a look at Tabitha's blog post to see a few others.

At Least He's Asleep

Kiddo has been fighting his naps a lot lately, which means when he does fall asleep, he's often in some fun places. Such as

...in our bed instead of his own (Brandon's side of the bed, to be exact)...

...sitting up on the couch in his room...

...upside down in his bed...

...or sitting up on the living room couch.

Here's hoping he remembers the beauty of sleeping at nap time.

Suddenly He's 14

I got some new sunglasses recently and tried them on while Kiddo and I were in the car.

Me: (turning to face H) Kiddo, do you like my new sunglasses?

H: (not looking up from his toy car) Yeah.

Me: You didn't even look at them!

H: (looking up at me) Um, yeah they're kinda cool.

Me: Thanks a lot.

Playdough

It was pretty cold out the other day, so we tried to come up with various indoor activities.  It was a good opportunity for Kiddo to use playdough for the first time.  He didn't know quite what to make of it--he wasn't impressed by my snakes or even my playdough bear--but he got pretty into it when I showed him you could make cars.

And yes, he is playing on top of The Economist.  Why?  What do you do with your old copies?

And no.  His hair no longer makes him look like a Beatle.
