Brandon had a work trip in Singapore--just a four hour flight! and it wasn't a red eye!--and the rest of us had never been. It was Spring Break, but H's school had test reviews for his upcoming IB exams, so we ended up going for a long weekend. Our friends the Jeters were coincidentally going around the same time so we were able to spend some of the trip together.
First we went to the zoo, but I'm not gonna lie, it was hot and the humidity was insane. By the afternoon, the zoo was basically empty. Our favorite bits were seeing the chimps climbing above us and going to the the animal show--so much so that we went to it twice!
The next day we went to Universal Studios with the Jeters! Too busy having fun, this was the only picture we took:
The next day, we went to church and caught an amazing Easter Sunday music program. Then we went exploring! We neglected to buy museum tickets beforehand so the best exhibits were already sold out, but the Art Science Museum was pretty cool. And then we walked to the botanical gardens. Those were cool! Even better than we thought they'd be.
All around the botanical gardens we saw people dressed up in crazy ways. Once we got to the supertree grove we figured out why: there was a huge cosplay event going on, including live music. We enjoyed watching the music performances from a far, but between the costumes and the music, it was really fun to see.
And that was it for our visit to Singapore!
One more thing that made the trip memorable? We got the news: we were moving back to Houston. While Brandon was in meetings in Singapore, he got the official word. We knew a move was coming and we knew that Houston was the most likely option, but we were still holding out hope for another expat assignment. We told the kids over breakfast during our trip and there were some mixed feelings.
We had a couple months to prepare, but whether we liked it or not, we were moving back to the US!
