Kiddo knows about the Pentagon attack because of our proximity to the Pentagon Memorial (it's about a 10 minute drive) and we've discussed the reason why it's there. He knows about the attack on the Twin Towers from several conversations we've had with him about it, and even a children's book that we've read together. But I don't think we had ever talked to Kiddo about Flight 93 in detail. I tried to reiterate to him how brave the passengers and crew had been. It was a good opportunity for him to wrap his brain around what happened in a non-scary way. It's a really beautiful, peaceful space and I'm sure it will be even more so as the memorial continues to evolve.
The boulder shows the site of initial impact.
The barren space all around it was the debris field.
The wall is placed in the direction that Flight 93 was going when it crashed.
On the wall are all the names of the passengers and flight crew.
