Meeting Big Brother and Sister

Timing-wise, it just never worked to have the kids come visit us at the hospital.  So they didn't meet their new little sister until we brought her home, just before bedtime, when G2 was a day old.  They were--and still are--thrilled with this new family member!

Welcome G2!

I think we had all come to accept the fact that G2 wasn't going to come on her own anytime soon, which meant scheduling an induction. But we're so glad she's finally here!  8 lb 12 oz (our biggest baby by 3 oz!), 21 inches long.  We love you, G2!

For those who are interested, here is a condensed version of G2's birth story:  

Checked in at the hospital at 5 am, pitocin started around 6 am.  

6+ hours spent waiting around for contractions to get going.  

12-2 pm the contractions gradually became more frequent and intense.  

2:30-3 pm contractions required all my concentration.  

3ish pm the nurse called my midwife and asked more nurses to come in.  

3:13 pm our midwife ran into the room just as G2 was giving her first cry.

Killing Time with Grandma and Grandpa

My due date for Baby #3 (or G2, as we will call her on this blog) was January 27th, so my parents felt pretty confident that baby would be here when they came on the 30th.  They spent a day wandering around Galveston together and then spent the rest of their time in TX with us.

Since G2 still wasn't here (and wouldn't be here for a while), we tried to make the most of the waiting game and show my parents a good time.  Kiddo and BG really enjoyed playing games and having cookie parties with grandma and grandpa.  We also took them to some of our favorite restaurants--introducing them to Texas BBQ while we were at it--and spent an entire day wandering around Old Town Spring.  Old Town Spring is a quirky area that has fun little hole-in-the-wall shops and restaurants.  The kids love going to its toy store and I knew my folks would love some of the antique shops, as well as the German import store.  And since we were all feeling adventurous, we decided to try some local fried fare!

In order to have a good representation of desserts, we ordered fried twinkies, oreos, and nutter butters.  Meticulous taste-testing ensued.  The fried twinkies were everyone's least favorite, and we were a split vote on the oreos and nutter butters.  We all agreed that next time we should get some kind of fried candy bar to round out our experience.  I'm sure my parents are just waiting in anticipation!  All in all, it was a really fun day!
