Kid Day and First Day of School 2023

Crappy decorations are, in fact, tradition

Kid Day! You already know this means the kids pick all the activities; this year was pretty low-key, but really fun!

Breakfast got changed to pancakes with blueberries and whipped cream made by yours truly when we found out that the lady we liked to buy cinnamon rolls from was no longer selling them (this is why we plan Kid Day ahead of time).

I'll be honest, the kids got a little cranky with each other before we even got to playing Monopoly. Luckily, it didn't take long before we were having a great time.

Guess who won!

After Monopoly, we played a little badminton and although none of us are great, we are getting better. And we had fun!

For lunch we went to Smoor, a local chocolate shop that also sells food. Yeah, we got dessert, too.

After going back home, we played rousing games of Settlers of Catan (possibly the only time I've won that game) and Uno Dare.

Then the kids had some screen and friend time until Brandon got home from work.

For dinner, we had our favorite biryani and tapped into our precious supply of Dr. Pepper and Vimto to drink. Then we tried a new ice cream place that cam highly recommended: Omm Nom Nomm. Delicious!

We ended the day by watching the new season of The Dragon Prince and Kid Day was a success!

Gotta sit close to Dad!

One week later, we had the first day of school!

10th grade

6th grade

3rd grade

About a half hour after picking the kids up to go to school, the bus broke down. Luckily, there was another Indus bus right behind them that was able to pick up the kids and take them the rest of the way to school. I'm choosing to think of it as a good omen for the school year to come because what better day to the bus to break down than on the very first one?

Also--first day of school cookies!
